Its hypothesis is that marfan syndrome could be linked to Copper deficiency.

Thoughts?

This was covered on some older posts and I spoke on it...cant remember which one

Im mixed here. Copper is required for lysyl oxidase to form elastin cross linking. A deficiency would certainly lead to the failure of connective tissue.

On the other side...studies have shown that supplementing with copper does not increase lysyl oxidase activity in vivo.

Im not sure if copper deficiency play a real role in Marfans....but it cant be ruled out completely either.

Would it hurt to supplement with copper...??? No. So long as you dont over dose. I think 2mg every other day is safe and well tolerated. Copper does bioaccumulate so taking too much every day can cause some problems. Also dont take a copper pill on an empty stomach or you can count on getting some nausea.

In the final analysis I have suggested everyone with marfans take a small dose of copper along with the B vitamins. Cant hurt/might help category !!!!
